Item weights, dimensions, quantities and photographs. Separate the total payload from any individual lifting requirement.

02 / THE JOURNEY

Where and when?

Full collection and delivery addresses, extra stops, dates, receiving hours and site contact details.

03 / THE HANDLING

Handling & documents

Describe the loading equipment, site access and available transport document details so the complete enquiry can be assessed.

Cross-border destinations we accept enquiries for

JTC accepts cross-border transport enquiries for Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana and Mozambique. Give the collection address in South Africa, the actual destination, cargo description and required work at each end. Each quotation is assessed for the particular route, equipment, availability and service scope.

Zimbabwe is excluded from this service. A destination appearing here does not establish a fixed departure schedule, guaranteed transit time or a JTC depot in that country.

Namibia and Botswana transport enquiries

For Namibia, identify the receiving town and final premises, including any onward stop after the main delivery. Explain when the recipient can accept the load and who will organise unloading or lifting. Include the complete return arrangement if equipment or transport frames need to come back.

For Botswana, give the consignee contact, destination entrance and any additional collections or deliveries. Explain which items will be handed over at each stop so the body, loading sequence and receiving plan can be assessed before dispatch.

Lesotho and Mozambique transport enquiries

For Lesotho, provide the final delivery address and access information rather than only the country name. Send photographs where the approach, unloading space or placement point needs explanation. Include the preferred work window and who will be ready to receive the goods.

For Mozambique, identify the complete destination and the parties responsible for cargo release and receipt. Share the current status of the shipment information and any receiving or site-booking requirements. The agreed route and timing must be confirmed for the actual movement.

Select the truck and handling from the cargo

Compare the 20-ton flatbed and 30-ton flatbed without a crane for suitable open-deck cargo, or the 20-ton closed truck for suitable packaged goods. Send item-level weights and dimensions, cargo photographs, packing and supports.

If the proposed job needs a crane offload, include its weight, reach, setup access and final position with a crane-truck enquiry. Request internal machinery movement separately where the work extends beyond the truck’s loading or delivery position. Availability and the agreed handling scope must be confirmed for the destination.

Agree border-related responsibilities before the job is booked

Identify the sender, recipient and any clearing representative already appointed. Explain whether the cargo is a sale, a temporary movement or equipment returning after work, and share the documentation status with the quotation team. The applicable permit, customs, insurance and cargo requirements and responsibility for each step must be confirmed for the actual shipment.

Use SARS import, export and transit information as an official reference point, alongside the appropriate destination authorities and appointed specialists. This page does not claim that every customs or clearance service is automatically included in a truck booking.

Get a written quote for the complete movement

Include the complete route, load, preferred dates, receiving window, handling, additional stops and return cargo. Ask the quote to identify the agreed service, charges and responsibilities, including any destination handling or waiting that forms part of the scope. Do not apply a local daily vehicle charge to an international journey.

For a movement entirely within South Africa, use the nationwide truck transport page. For a local collection feeding the cross-border journey, include that address in the same brief rather than treating it as an unquoted extra leg.

Answers to help you plan

Cross-Border: questions

Which cross-border countries can I request transport for?

JTC accepts enquiries for Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana and Mozambique. Zimbabwe is excluded. Provide the precise destination, cargo and handling requirements so the particular route, availability and scope can be assessed.

Do I need to provide only the destination country?

Provide the full collection and delivery addresses, receiving contacts and any additional stop. A country name alone does not establish the route, final-site access, unloading arrangements or complete transport price.

Are customs clearance and border-related charges included automatically?

The written quote must identify the agreed services, charges and responsibilities. Tell the team which sender, recipient and clearing representatives are involved and what documentation is ready so the applicable arrangements can be confirmed.

Can a cross-border load include machinery or crane offloading?

Submit the equipment dimensions, weights, packing and loading and delivery arrangements. Request any crane or machinery-positioning stage explicitly; suitability, destination handling, availability and responsibilities must be assessed for the actual job.
